Millwall boss Gary Rowett: The two goals we conceded at Swansea were very unlike us

Gary Rowett was left frustrated with his side’s performance as Swansea ended Millwall’s unbeaten start to the season.

“I felt in the first half Swansea were the better side,” said Rowett.

“We were a little bit too far off them at times, they didn’t create masses of chances but I was a little bit disappointed with our performance.

“We had a couple of moments early in the game where we could have done better but to get to half-time at 0-0, I was relatively pleased with the scoreline but not so pleased with our performance.”

Swansea opened the scoring just moments into the second half.

“We were hoping for a good start to the second half, so for us to start the way we did was very disappointing, it’s a really poor goal from our perspective to concede. We’ve got to deal with the ball going back to the thrower, we’ve then got to deal with the lad turning, he’s been allowed to turn too easily, he’s puts a ball in the box we are marking Bidwell in the box and he gets a toe on it and scores so I’d have to say the normal defensive resolute nature of us wasn’t there and that was very, very unlike us.”

Millwall responded well and got themselves level just five minutes after going behind as Bradshaw netted for the first time in the league since January 1.

Rowett said: “I thought then for 20, 25 minutes we were excellent, we were the better side – we scored a worthy goal. “

Swansea’s second goal came from a set-piece, which Millwall are normally very strong at defending.

Rowett said: “The second goal is disappointing, it’s against the run of play, a ball into our box from a free-kick and they react a lot quicker than us, so two goals that are very unlike us. That’s my disappointment – because we did just enough to get a point.”
