QPR boss gives verdict on former Charlton striker Macauley Bonne scoring on his debut

QPR manager Mark Warburton was “delighted” that Macauley Bonne marked his debut with a crucial late equaliser at Sheffield Wednesday.

The striker signed from Charlton Athletic on Friday and headed home in the sixth minute of stoppage time to cancel out Yoann Barbet’s own goal.

Warburton said: “We thoroughly deserved the equaliser. One point – at least – was the minimum we deserved from that game.

“I’m delighted for him [Bonne]. And it helped Lyndon as well, because he worked so tirelessly. There were some good link-up play. He needed someone to run in behind him.

“Macauley is match fit and when he came on he looked dangerous.

“We looked a good team second half. We got behind so many times, so many set-pieces – the reward came late.”

Rangers head into an international break before the October 17 trip to AFC Bournemouth.

Warburton said: “I’d rather be playing, simply because we’re going to be playing seven games in 21 [days] and then nine games in 28 – which places demands on a really thin squad.”

And the QPR chief is confident that there are more deals lined up to follow Bonne’s capture.

“I think we’re very close – very, very close to a couple more,” he said. “A lot of work is being done by Les [Ferdinand, director of football] and the rest of the team. I’m very confident the next 48 hours will be very interesting.”
