Celtic get another transfer knock back as Charlton reject fresh approach for Alfie Doughty – English club also interested in winger

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer says Celtic have had another approach for Alfie Doughty knocked back.

And the Addicks chief has also revealed that there is an English club who are keen on the 20-year-old attacker.

Celtic have had at least two bids rejected for Doughty and the SPL deadline for deals is today.

The Glasgow giants made a fresh play for the pacey left-sided winger before Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

Bowyer said: “They made another offer last week as far as I’m aware. I don’t know if it was verbal or actually on paper. But it wasn’t enough, whatever it was.

“Yeah, yeah I’m confident [of Doughty staying] unless Celtic come back with an offer which would interest us. I think Alfie is going to stay.

“We get compensation even if Alfie goes cross border in the summer – that’s the difference between him and Dillon [Phillips]. We don’t get a penny wherever Dillon goes in the summer.

“We have to weigh up the pros and cons if Alfie goes, we’d need someone ready to replace him.

“There is a club that is interested in this country as well. And it works the same way – what are they prepared to pay? If it’s right we’ll consider it. But we don’t want to sell Alfie, of course we don’t. In an ideal world Alfie signs the contract and keeps progressing.

“He ain’t the finished article, for sure. In my eyes he should stay, sign his contract and crack on.”
