Fulham GP at The Salisbury Surgery “suspended” in order to protect patient safety – and patients told to use alternative surgery

A Fulham GP has been “suspended” by the national health and care watchdog in order to protect patients’ safety.
The Salisbury Surgery, in Dawes Road, closed on September 25 following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
It is run by Dr Ravindrasena Muthiah, who is the only GP at the practice.
Vicki Wells, the watchdog’s deputy chief inspector for general practice, said:
“The CQC took urgent enforcement action to protect patients.
“While our legal processes do not allow us to go into further detail at this time, we will publish a full report of our findings in due course.
“CQC’s priority is the safety and wellbeing of people using services.”
Dr Muthiah was approached for comment but he did not respond.
The surgery had already been rated ‘Inadequate’ by CQC inspectors following its most recent inspection in February.
The inspector’s report described the premises as “dirty and dusty”, and said staff “did not keep a log regarding the cleaning and maintenance of clinical equipment”.
It added: “The provider could not demonstrate there was a safe, effective system to monitor delays in (hospital) referrals.
“The lead GP told us the practice did not follow-up patients who had been referred via the urgent two-week wait referral pathway.”
The two-week waits are assigned to patients displaying cancer symptoms.
Many of the failings highlighted related to not keeping records of patients’ treatments, and not auditing them properly.
The surgery’s patients are being advised to instead book appointments with the Sands End Health Clinic in Broughton Road Approach, Fulham.
