Charlton Athletic sign former Cardiff, Grimsby and Wigan striker

Former Cardiff City striker Omar Bogle has signed a 12-month deal with Charlton Athletic.

There is also an option to extend the 27-year-old forward’s stay in SE7 by a further year.

Bogle, whose prolific scoring at Grimsby Town led to him joining Wigan for an undisclosed fee in 2017, was released by the Bluebirds at the end of last season.

Bogle netted 35 times in 77 appearances from Grimsby.

In total he has 50 goals in 161 career appearances – including six in 21 outings at League One level.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said: “It’s a position we needed to strengthen, so I’m over the moon with Omar’s signing.

“He’s good at everything, his all-round game as a striker is really good and we’ll improve him, which we do with all our players. He will be a very good striker in this division.

“I’ve said it before, we have to bring the right people in and Omar fits that. He’s another piece of the puzzle and slowly but surely we’re putting a decent squad together.”

Addicks owner Thomas Sandgaard added: “I am very pleased we have been able to sign a striker of Omar’s quality.

“I spoke to him on the phone and he is really looking forward to playing for Charlton, so I can’t wait to see him play.

“We have a way we want to play and required a striker that fits that style and Omar matches that perfectly.”
