Charlton Athletic sign Palace defender Ryan Inniss until at least 2022

Charlton Athletic have signed Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss on at least a two-year contract.

There is also an option in the deal for the 25-year-old centre-back to extend his stay in SE7 for a further 12 months.

Inniss trained with his new club this morning.

“It’s a position that we needed to strengthen,” said Addicks manager Lee Bowyer. “It has been difficult as there are not many right-footed centre-halves out there but we have managed to get a very good one.

“Ryan is a winner, it is important when you have players like that at the back, and he’s a leader, an organiser and in that centre-half position that is what we were looking for.”

Inniss becomes Charlton’s ninth signing of the current transfer window.

And the former England U16 and U17 international is the sixth addition since Danish businessman Thomas Sandgaard acquired the League One club last month.

“It has been a busy few weeks but I am very pleased we have been able to strengthen the squad,” said Sandgaard.

“Ryan is a player that Steve Gallen [director of football] has been following for a very long time and he fits in with what Lee and Steve are trying to do, so we are very happy to welcome him to the club.”
