Hull City 1 AFC Wimbledon 0 – Dons’ unbeaten away record ends but final result is harsh on them

AFC Wimbledon’s unbeaten away record came to an end at the KCOM Stadium with a second consecutive 1-0 defeat – this time to Hull City. It was harsh on the Dons, who gave as good as they got and dominated the second half.
Glyn Hodges sought to nullify Hull’s attacking threat by flooding the midfield with at times a 3-6-1 formation with Jack Rudoni the furthest forward of six midfielders in the hole behind lone striker Joe Pigott.
Indeed it was Rudoni who should have opened the scoring but he screwed his shot from close range wide after Pigott headed Shane McLoughlin’s cross into his path. Alex Woodyard also squandered a golden chance as he headed a pinpoint Luke O’Neill cross wide.
The Dons would regret those misses in the seventh minute of first-half injury-time as Jacob Greaves’ volley was brilliantly saved by Connal Trueman only for Keane Lewis-Potter to nod in the rebound.
Although the visitors threw everything at the Tigers in the second half they were unable to break down a well-organised outfit who look every bit like a side touted to make an immediate return to the Championship.
