Art boxes bring joy to lives of dementia patients

A charity has been shortlisted in the National Dementia care awards.

Blackheath based charity Age Exchange has made it to the finals in the Outstanding Dementia Resource category as part of the National Dementia Care awards 2020.

It has been nominated for its programme delivering reminiscence arts activity boxes to people living with dementia, and their carers.

Each box contains 14 activities, including arts, crafts and music. The activities have been inspired by places and sensory experiences from around the world.

The aim is to unlock memories by linking the activities to their own experiences.

The boxes are designed to bring joy into people’s lives.

Age Exchange started delivering the boxes at the beginning of lockdown.

Chief executive Rebecca Packwood said the charity was “delighted to have made the finals” and was “really proud of the team who created the boxes and the volunteers who helped assemble and deliver them”.

Winners of the National Dementia Care Awards will be announced at a virtual Awards Presentation tomorrow.
