Jake Cooper set for scan on shoulder as Millwall boss provides injury update ahead of Blackburn match

Jake Cooper is set for a scan on his shoulder today – with Millwall manager Gary Rowett hopeful he can feature at Blackburn on Wednesday.

The Lions centre-back has played every minute of the last 136 Championship matches and stayed on in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Birmingham City despite suffering a dislocation.

Millwall have a hefty injury list – Kenneth Zohore, Billy Mitchell, Connor Mahoney, Mahlon Romeo and Mason Bennett were all unavailable for the trip to the Midlands.

“We’ve got a couple of scans this afternoon on players,” said Rowett. “We’ll know a little bit more about what route we take in the next week or so.

“With Mason we always thought he wouldn’t quite be back for the Blackburn game, just because the timing for the injury was 10 days to two weeks. He needed a certain amount of time to heal, regardless of how he felt.

“Mahlon is probably the same situation. We’ll assess him before the game and see whether there is anything we can do to get him out there.

“But our situation probably won’t change too dramatically.

“I don’t think there is ever an issue dislocating a shoulder when it is popped back in. It is about assessing the chances of it re-dislocating and that depends on the damage that occurred when it was originally dislocated, not going on what Coops’ said.

“We’ll probably learn a little bit more today but we’re hopeful that he’ll be available.

“Mahlon is more one that is day to day and seeing how he feels – if we can inject it [his foot] and crack on.”

Shaun Williams was on the bench at the weekend with Rowett admitting the experienced midfielder was only good for about 10 minutes of action.

“He had a dead calf and dead quad – he got it when he was sandwiched right between two players at the end of the Reading match,” said the Lions chief.

“It would’ve been his third game in a week and he hadn’t played very much – it would’ve been a really difficult one to go out again and start the game.

“We felt it was best to have him on the bench so that if we were 1-0 up with five or 10 minutes to go we could add a little bit of nous on the pitch.

“Hopefully he’ll have settled down enough to be available for Wednesday depending on his how fit he is and how the dead leg reacts.”
