Charlton manager Lee Bowyer: Recovery is absolutely key for Shrewsbury match

Lee Bowyer says getting his players’ recovery right is key for Charlton as they head to Shrewsbury Town today.

The Addicks are looking to bounce back from Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Milton Keynes.

The Shrews have yet to win at home in League One this season. They appointed Steve Cotterill as their new manager at the end of November.

Bowyer had seen Shrewsbury when he was on the punditry panel for Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show.

He said: “I watched them against MK – there are no bad teams in this division.

“They have changed manager, so it’s difficult because he’ll probably have a different way of playing or use different personnel.

“I watched Wednesday’s game on Thursday. There is no point looking at the matches before he took over, because Tuesday was his first league game.

“Everybody thinks you can just turn up and beat MK Dons but you can’t. Every team has got players who can hurt you.

“We’ll try and get our recovery right. They played Tuesday and we played a day later. So recovery is going to be real, real important.

“We’ll try to freshen it up a little bit and young Ian [Maatsen] is back from suspension.”
