Steps travel in Time

Pop superstars Steps are the first headline act to be announced for Greenwich Music Time 2018.

The Brit Award winning band will bring their live show to London’s six-day riverside music festival at the historic Old Royal Naval College on Thursday July 5.

The annoucement comes as the band release Tears On The Dancefloor – their first full album of original material since 2000.

Steps in 2001 set the then record for the most consecutive sold-out nights at Wembley Arena.

The festival is staged in a purpose build outdoor arena, in the grounds of the Christopher Wren-designed Old Royal Naval College, overlooking the River Thames. Last summer’s headliners included Cliff Richard, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, Little Mix, The Jacksons and Alexander O’Neill.Steps – Lee, Claire, Lisa, Faye and ‘H’ – returned with a new album Tears On The Dancefloor and have a string of sold out arena shows.

Greenwich Music Time director Peter Taylor said: “2017 has been a sensational year for Steps and we are delighted to be bringing them to Greenwich Music Time in 2018.

“Their new material is brilliant – fresh but true to their feelgood pop roots. It stands so well alongside their best-loved songs which made them not only one of the biggest chart bands but a record-breaking live act.

“The speed Steps sold out so many dates on their arena tour shows this is going to be a hugely popular night at Greenwich and one we can’t wait for.”

Steps have 14 top five singles, sold more than 20 million records and reached Number One with three albums and three singles.

Their Ultimate Collection had Scared of the Dark, Neon Blue, Dancing With A Broken Heart – and Story of a Heart written by Abba legends Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It reached Number Two in the UK Charts.
