Exclusive: Millwall pushing EFL to help in preventing Sky Sports televising Watford match
Millwall do not want Sky Sports to televise their December 29 home game against Watford – with the Championship side still furious over the broadcaster’s coverage in the build up to the recent derby with QPR.
The network were live at last week’s match and there was a major spotlight on the fixture after some Lions fans booed the ‘taking the knee’ gesture before the 1-0 reverse to Derby County.
Sky Sports ran a story on their website before the Rangers clash in which they reported that Millwall’s players would still be performing the act, even though that had been denied by the club the article was not amended.
The Lions squad did not ‘take the knee’, instead holding up an anti-discrimination banner as they joined forces with their QPR counterparts before the fixture kicked off.
Millwall have asked the EFL to liaise with Sky Sports about deselecting the Watford match while the dispute is ongoing – even though live coverage is worth £75,000 to them.
There have been several heated discussions which took place after the QPR match between club bosses and the broadcaster.
And while the issue remains unresolved Millwall do not want to let Sky’s cameras in.
It was reported over the weekend that EFL clubs had held talks about scrapping ‘taking the knee’.
One national paper claimed that there was a meeting between the EFL and their clubs last week to discuss possible alternatives.

well done millwall, the virtue signalling sky scum need to be dropped now, and the viewing figures they are getting is dropping like a stone in water.
Enough give us our football back
Sky Sports have taken advantage of the lockdown and forced the BLM “taking the knee” Iit is not relevant in the UK as we have Kick It Out. We are not yet the 51st state and our Police do not carry guns. All clubs should reject Sky Sports until they replace BLM with Kick It Out
Good for Millwall, it’s about time someone stood up to Sky, they’re responsible for so many bad things that have crept into football by their constant need to look for controversy in everything. Sport has never been the same since their arrival, they just don’t understand overkill
I remember the days when players went on the pitch, stood to the National Anthem, then played football.
Now it’s all virtue-signalling, politically-correct nonsense. They get paid too much money and believe we care about their thoughts, feelings and opinions.
We don’t.
You’re not gods. You’re not superheroes. Just play the game you’re overpaid to do and keep your opinions to yourselves.
