Exclusive: AFC Wimbledon star man is a free agent in summer
By Richard Cawley
Lyle Taylor is out of contract this summer – and AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley is making no promises they can keep him.
The 27-year-old has scored 14 goals in 39 matches this season.
Ardley said: “We don’t want to lose our best players but sometimes a player goes beyond you. Whether that is the case with Lyle or not, we don’t know.
“We will certainly do our best with him. Sometimes a player does so well they can go and command good stuff elsewhere.
“Yeah, there was [interest in January] which was quickly rebuffed. There was never a time we were going to lose Lyle.
“But it’s like with Tom Elliott and Jake Reeves, when players do really, really well then other clubs come in for them.
“If players don’t do well then you let them go, if they are performing than that attracts interest. The fact we have kept Lyle Taylor for three years is a feather in the cap, because he hasn’t stayed anywhere else that long.
“But the most important thing isn’t to worry about who is doing what at the end of the season – the worry is about what league we’re going to be in.
“Once we have got that part sorted then we will sit down and see who is going out and who we want to keep.”
Taylor joined the Dons from Scunthorpe United in July 2015. The former Millwall trainee has notched 51 goals in 137 outings for Wimbledon.
