Charlton boss Lee Bowyer hopeful of good news on former Palace and Forest man

Lee Bowyer says it is too soon to determine the full extent of Ben Watson’s hamstring injury.

The Charlton Athletic midfielder was forced off with the issue in Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Hull City.

Former Crystal Palace man Watson, 35, has made 15 appearances since signing for the Addicks as a free agent following his release by Forest.

He was replaced by Alex Gilbey in the 10th minute.

“We won’t know more until later on today or tomorrow,” said Bowyer. “He’ll have a scan.

“We’re hoping it’s not too bad – just from watching the game back yesterday and the way it happened. It wasn’t a full sprint. It looked quite innocuous, the way it happened near the touchline.

“He tried to shimmy the ball out and maybe twisted something. He’s experienced enough to know when something is not right, so we took him off.”
