Latest coronavirus figures for Westminster revealed – with some areas seeing a decrease in cases

New data from Public Health England shows the areas of Westminster with the highest infection rates.

In the seven days to January 1, The Church Street area had the highest infection rate, at 950 new cases per 100,000. This was after 152 new cases were recorded.

The PHE data also showed that Church Street’s infection rate had shot up by 62 per cent compared to the previous week (December 18-25).

West Kilburn was the second-worst affected area in Westminster. Its infection rate hit 835 cases per 100,000 people. This was due to 114 new cases being recorded in the week before January 1.

Other parts of the borough, particularly with smaller residential populations, appeared to be among the safest in all of London.

The City of Westminster, which includes Victoria, Whitehall, Parliament and The Strand, had an infection rate of 395 cases per 100,000 people.

Also boasting a lower infection rate, according to PHE, was the area listed as Knightsbridge, Belgravia and Hyde Park. Here, cases actually fell by 16 per cent, giving it a new infection rate of 221 cases per 100,000 residents.

St John’s Wood North’s infection rate was 333 cases per 100,000 people. This was down by seven per cent.

Most parts of Westminster had infection rates that were typical of central London.

Pimlico North had an infection rate of 470 cases per 100,000 residents – down by six per cent.

Pimlico South had 654 cases per 100,000 residents, down by seven per cent.

Maida Vale had 668 cases per 100,000 residents, up by 12.5 per cent.

Fitzrovia and Soho had 486 cases per 100,000 residents, an increase of four per cent.

Little Venice had 536 cases per 100,000 residents, up by five per cent on the previous week.
