Alfie Doughty will be loaned back to Charlton Athletic – with Stoke, Bournemouth and QPR all agreeing to terms

Alfie Doughty is set to be loaned back to Charlton Athletic – with all three clubs who have had bids accepted for the winger agreeing for him to see out the season in SE7.

Stoke City, Bournemouth and QPR were all given permission to discuss personal terms with the 21-year-old left-footer.

Doughty is working his way back from a torn hamstring and is not expected to be fit until around the end of February.

“Part of the deal is that Alfie will be coming back on loan,” said Addicks manager Lee Bowyer.

“Alfie himself has said he has started the season with us and he’d like to finish it. He wants to be part of trying to help us finish as high as possible, which is good.

“I imagine he will get fit and then whichever club gets him will send him back on loan to us until the end of the season. Then he’ll go back to wherever he goes.

“Whenever he comes back training he will have been out a while. He has got to try and get up to match speed. If we have him for the last couple of months then that will be a bonus but with these injuries you have to be careful, because things can happen between now and then. It is difficult to predict.

“The good thing is he wants to come back and help for the rest of the season. All the clubs have agreed to that. It is part of the deal.”

  • Good news in one way, but not good that he still wants to leave. As I have said before, with this type of injury, he may not be the quick player he was, plus how much effort will he put in as I am sure he will not want to risk any other injuries before he starts at his new club. Of course, there will be the summer break if he does get a problem, but will he be 100% focused with Charlton. I hope so and I am sure Bowyer will not play him if he is not 100% on his game.
