Millwall defender used his energy to sap attacking intent of Boreham Wood’s star man

Gary Rowett reckons Millwall defender Danny McNamara sapped the attacking enthusiasm of Boreham Wood dangerman Sorba Thomas on Saturday.

The 22-year-old played at wing-back in the FA Cup tie – making his Lions debut after being recalled from his loan at St Johnstone.

Thomas has previously been the subject of interest from Charlton. But the transfer-listed wideman was largely contained as Millwall ran out 2-0 victors.

“What Danny did is what he has done for 22 games in Scotland – he used his energy to run him [Thomas] the other way,” said Millwall manager Rowett.

“He showed a little bit of desire and drive – you grind players down to the point where they don’t want to attack anymore, to save their energy.

“I was pleased with him. He has played at that level before and a level higher, so I’m mindful I don’t want to get too carried by the performance. But I was impressed with him.

“What you see is a player who has added games and built confidence and got a bit more standing because of that. I only brought him back to have a chance at getting in the team.

“It is good for competition and good for our squad.”
