Charlton boss has updates on Chelsea and Norwich loanees ahead of Portsmouth clash in SE7

Ian Maatsen will be back in Charlton’s squad for their home game against Portsmouth on Saturday.

The on-loan Chelsea left-back sat out the 1-0 win at Milton Keynes on Tuesday.

But Addicks manager Lee Bowyer always intended to give Maatsen a break with the young Dutchman featuring heavily since making the switch to SE7.

He said: “Young Ian will train today. We left him behind the other night. He just needed a rest.”

Conor Washington is set for a scan today on the calf injury which forced him off in midweek.

On-loan Norwich centre-back Akin Famewo is close to a return from an ankle injury.

“It was a rest day for him yesterday but today he might be involved with us,” said Bowyer. “It just depends how he has been the last few days.

“We can’t rush him. But we want to try and get him back a little before the initial date we thought. If we can shave a little bit of time off that will be good. If he comes back for Portsmouth that will be a bit shaved off.”
