Millwall boss – Ken Zohore’s penalty changed the psychology of my team +Scott Malone shows individual flair for his goal

Gary Rowett felt that Kenneth Zohore’s penalty changed the dynamics of his Millwall side in today’s 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Callum Paterson had put the visitors ahead before the on-loan West Brom striker levelled from the spot before the interval.

Scott Malone, Ben Thompson and Tom Bradshaw were on target as the Lions won for the only the second time in the league at The Den this season.

Asked about if he had seen an emphatic victory coming, Millwall manager Rowett said: “I certainly hadn’t seen it coming very many times this season. We had to make some changes to freshen it up, which was a little bit of a gamble.

“Young Danny McNamara came out, I just felt it was the right time for Mahlon [Romeo] to go back in – to give us that little impact. Danny has done fabulous for us and he’ll certainly play a lot more games.

“Thommo coming out was a difficult one again, we changed shape slightly. I felt there would be opportunities to get into certain areas. For the first 30 minutes I was very disappointed with the performance. It was a tight game, there was nothing in it and Sheffield Wednesday were probably as attritional as us but they got the one break, the one moment, where we don’t defend well and go 1-0 down.

“With our home form this season being as poor as it is, you can’t help feeling a little deflated at the start. We kicked on a little bit and imposed ourselves for 10 minutes before the penalty. The penalty changed our whole psychology. From then on it we were completely dominant. We’ve had about 24 or 25 shots to their four. They didn’t realise cause us any problems at all apart from a Bannan delivery.

“It was about whether we could take our chances. We had to make a couple more changes through injury, Maikel Kieftenbeld came off with a tight hamstring and Lenny had to come off with his ankle.

“Westwood makes three brilliant saves at the start of the season half and you wonder what we’re going to do to get that second goal. A moment of brilliance by Scottie Malone gets it. He’s been fabulous for us, it’s a great individual goal. And from there on in it is how many could we score.

“I’m sure Thommo will say he meant it. It’s a brilliant strike, and then it opens up. We kept our foot on the gas which is something we haven’t done enough this season.”
