“We got what we deserved” – Roy Hodgson admits Palace were second best in 2-0 loss at Leeds United

Roy Hodgson admitted his Crystal Palace side deserved nothing from tonight’s 2-0 loss at Leeds United.

The home side went ahead just three minutes in through Jack Harrison’s deflected strike and former Eagles loanee Patrick Bamford pounced for his 100th goal in club football shortly after the resumption of the second half.

Only poor finishing prevented Marcelo Bielsa’s side from running out more emphatic victors.

Hodgson said: “We were deservedly beaten. We made life difficult for ourselves with the goals we conceded at the start of the first half and the start of the second half – any hope of trying to stay in the game was quickly kiboshed by the second-half goal. Both came from unfortunate technical errors, which happen in a game of football.

“After that we tried our best to keep Leeds at bay but we didn’t create enough chances. As a result we have to accept we lost to the better team this evening.

“All teams are hard to play against when you concede early on and are chasing the game. Normally our passing is better than it was tonight. I don’t quite know the reason for that. The pitch didn’t help us but that’s not the complete answer. We gave the ball away more often than I’m used to seeing us give it away, and as a result we weren’t able to create enough pressure on our opponents to really get ourselves back into the game.

“Having conceded early in each half we were facing an uphill battle.”

  • Palace were outclassed and out played, hodgson time is done, players not playing for him and need a kick up the arse and shouldn’t get paid if they are not willing to put in 100% effort, need a tougher management in. Not a soft arse old man who’s done his time and just happy to be getting a pay cheque at end of day.
