Ryan Inniss cleared to step up his rehab – with Charlton defender missing from action for more than three months

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has provided an update on Ryan Inniss – with the defender now absent for more than three months.

The former Crystal Palace centre-back has not featured for the Addicks since the FA Cup reverse to Plymouth Argyle due to a quad injury.

“Now we are just stepping it up with him,” said Bowyer. “He can run faster now and start kicking balls short distances. They are little stepping stones – at least he is allowed to step it up.

“He has got another scan in a couple of weeks, hopefully that is okay so that we can really push him and get him back as soon as we can.

“The specialist said 12 weeks. It has been a bit longer but then you get that with injuries – not everybody’s body is the same. Someone else might recover in 11 weeks. It’s just the average return date. It hasn’t mended as quickly as everyone was hoping it would do.”
