Youngsters back cultural bid

Visitors to Young Greenwich Day shared their views on what #GreenwichMeans to them to back the London Borough of Culture Bid.

Charlton Athletic Community Trust’s (CACT) second annual celebration of young people included an opportunity to support the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s bid.

Young people wrote down what they like about the borough on postcards along with ideas of what they would like to see happen if we win the prestigious title.

Young Greenwich Day, which took place in The Valley’s West Stand car park on Saturday, included an exciting range of games, craft workshops and performances for young people to enjoy. They could also claim free tickets to watch the game against Doncaster Rovers. Councillor Denise Hyland, leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “Inclusivity is at the heart of our bid to become London Borough of Culture so it was great to hear from some of the younger members of our community on Young Greenwich Day. And as all Charlton fans know, the Valley is one of our borough’s cultural highlights. Thank you to everyone who shared their views and I would encourage residents of all ages to show their support and back the bid at one of our upcoming drop-in sessions.”

Jeannette Harrison, head of youth service at Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), said: “Young Greenwich gives the young people opportunities to meet friends and learn new life skills. It is fantastic to see the positive effect and development of each young person who is a part of our youth services with the support of  our local team, Charlton Athletic Football Club (CAFC).”
