New role for Globe Theatre’s boss

The chief executive of Shakespeare’s Globe, has been named by the Chartered Management Institute as chairman of its London regional board.  Neil Constable, has been appointed for a two-year term starting this month. He will continue in his role at the Globe alongside his duties with CMI.

Mr Constable has worked in theatre for over 30 years. He was appointed chief executive of Shakespeare’s Globe in 2010 to lead the completion of the indoor Jacobean theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
Constable has steered the organisation that now welcomes 1.25 million visitors a year, has grown its income from £14million to £27million and helped it become an iconic international cultural attraction.

CMI is the chartered professional body for managers and leaders with a membership of 157,000 including 25,000 members in London. The regional board delivers practical support to its members and the wider management community, working with CMI’s higher education partners, employers and education providers, and hosting events in the region.

Constable was appointed a Companion of CMI in ­­­­2012, its highest level of membership.
Constable said: “I’m delighted to become regional chairman for London and the south east.

“During my term as chairman I will endeavour to bring stronger representation from the wider creative industries within the CMI membership as many of the challenges currently facing the corporate sector are all significant issues that the creative industries also faces”.

Before joining the Globe, Constable was executive director and joint chief executive of the Almeida Theatre from 2003 to 2010).

Prior to that he worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company for 16 years, holding the senior management positions of London manager at the Barbican Centre and RSC general administrator.
