“I’d fear nobody” – Charlton chief confident his side are good enough to match any of League One’s top teams at Wembley

Lee Bowyer would not fear his Charlton side facing anyone in a League One play-off final – but knows their next three home games are crunch time for their prospects of a top-six finish.

The Addicks have struggled at The Valley this season and follow up today’s 0-0 draw at Oxford by facing Northampton, Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers in SE7.

First up are a Cobblers side who thumped Portsmouth 4-1 today.

Charlton are 20th in a league table for home form. They are four points behind Pompey after today’s results but have played a fixture more. Accrington, Ipswich and Oxford all have two matches in hand.

Bowyer said: “We have to turn it around and we have to turn it around starting Tuesday. These next three home games are going to be so important, to what happens to us.

“But there are positives to take from today to build on. Northampton are a completely different team to the one we played earlier in the season. I went and watched them against Ipswich. They were a 3-5-2 and it was long ball. Not any more. They are hard-working, honest and they are not a bad side – they should have beaten Ipswich.

“We have to be at it, for sure.”

Charlton have followed up last weekend’s 3-0 reverse to Blackpool in South London with successive clean sheets on the road.

Bowyer said: “It’s called hard work. If you work hard and do the basics right then we’re a good side. We’ve got good players and we’re a good side.

“If we cut out the individual mistakes then we can compete with any team – easy. I have no doubt. There is not one team that would frighten me if we had to play them at Wembley tomorrow.”
