Derby County 0 Millwall 1 – Hutch header sees Lions claim seventh away Championship win of the season

BY ALEX GRACE

Millwall secured a third successive 1-0 win over Derby County at Pride Park as Shaun Hutchinson headed home from a corner in first-half stoppage time.

Hutchinson’s goal proved to be Millwall’s only attempt on target in the 90 minutes.

Jed Wallace fired wide from a free-kick in the opening stages of what proved to be a physical match.

Derby were getting some joy down Millwall’s left hand side with Nathan Byrne twice whipping in good crosses for Craig Forsyth, who had a significant height advantage over Mahlon Romeo. The Scotland international came close to opening the scoring on both occasions in the opening 20 minutes.

For all of their possession in the first half, Derby failed to really test Bart Bialkowski apart from a long-distance effort from Kamil Jozwiak.

The Lions broke the deadlock when Jed Wallace’s inch-perfect cross was met by thundering header from Hutchinson that nestled in the bottom corner of Kelle Roos’ net.

Millwall had a glorious chance to extend their lead at the start of the second half. A break led by Mason Bennett then found Ben Thompson but he took too much time and eventually lost possession.

Colin Kazim-Richards smashed a free-kick into the wall for Derby after 54 minutes as the visitors continued to frustrate their hosts.

Substitute Louie Sibley – who scored a hat-rick at The Den in June last year, turned an effort on to the bar from a Byrne corner as Derby pressed for the equaliser.

Patrick Roberts curled a shot along the ground that fell nicely into Bialkowski’s path as the game entered four minutes of stoppage time which the Lions saw through to secure their seventh away win of the season and take their away points total to 27 for the season.
