Lee Bowyer on Diallang Jaiyesimi: He’s still adjusting – Swindon’s expectation levels aren’t as high as Charlton’s

BY LOUIS MENDEZ

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer says January signing Diallang Jaiyesimi is still adjusting to the “higher expectation” levels at The Valley, after joining from fellow League One side Swindon Town.

The 22-year old South London born winger, who scored against the Addicks for his previous club shortly before Christmas, was snapped up from the Robins on deadline day but has made just two starts since his arrival in SE7.

He’s also made four appearances from the bench, the latest of which came during today’s 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury Town.

When asked how he assessed Jaiyesimi’s first few weeks with the club, Bowyer said: “He’s a young lad that’s learning. It’s different. When you’re a young lad who goes and plays for a Swindon – not in a disrespectful way – when you go and play for Swindon the expectation ain’t as high.

“When you come and play for Charlton there’s a different level and a different standard. That’s the reality of it. He’s adjusting. He has to keep working hard. Today, a couple of times he lost the ball but he worked hard and won it back straight away, he reacted. Which I want all my players to do.

“Obviously, he’s not been used to that. Everything is new to him. And he’s young. He’ll improve. He’ll get more opportunities. He’ll be okay.”
