QPR keen on permanent midfielder deal in summer transfer window

Mark Warburton has said he would be “very keen” to sign Sam Field on a permanent deal.

The midfielder, who is on loan from West Bromwich Albion, has seen his season disrupted by injury but helped play a role in Queens Park Rangers’ improved form since January.

Field impressed Warburton in QPR’s 1-1 draw with promotion contenders Reading, his 15th appearance this campaign, and the R’s boss appears keen to bring him back in the summer.

He said: “[Field has had] a really frustrating time with injury and you get to the point, I’m sure, where you expect to break down. He’s started off gradually and he’s done really well for us. I’d agree with you, I thought he had a very good game today.

“I’d be very, very keen [on signing him permanently]. I think Sam’s enjoying his football, he’s settling in well into the squad, he’s showing versatility. He can play at centre half, in a two or a three, and again obviously you’ve seen him in midfield.

“He ticks a lot of boxes for us. I’ve been delighted with his contribution, so I hope very much [we can sign him permanently]. I know he’s enjoying his football, he’s enjoying being around the squad, they have embraced him as a personality, so it’s so far, so good, absolutely.”

Lyndon Dykes scored his first goal for QPR since November as they drew 1-1 with Reading.

The Scotland international made it six for the season after 44 minutes when a sweeping move saw Lee Wallace cut the ball back for him to convert.

However, the Royals pulled level when Yakou Meite chased down a long ball over the top to slot it away between Seny Dieng’s legs after 57 minutes.

Rangers forced the issue late on, and went close through substitutes Chris Willock and Dom Ball, as well as Stefan Johansen, but had to settle for a draw at the Madejski Stadium.
