Millwall boss hoping Jordan Archer gets some Scotland game time

Millwall boss Neil Harris is hoping that Jordan Archer makes his Scotland debut – with the stopper in top form at club level.

The former Tottenham youngster, 24, has kept 14 clean sheets this season in the Championship.

Scotland’s first-choice stopper Craig Gordon is ruled out due to injury but Allan McGregor played against Costa Rica at Hampden Park on Friday night – his first appearance in over a year.

The Tartan Army play in Hungary on Tuesday.

Harris said: “I’d like all the boys to get some minutes. But Jordan, in particular, has been in three or four of Scotland’s recent squads and it would be great if he got some exposure to the games.

“His clean sheets and shots-to-goals conceded ratio probably merits that. He is playing in a league that is recognised as the fifth best in the world.

“Goalkeepers make mistakes and if they are young it is particularly highlighted. I’ve taken the decision in the last few years with Jordan that if that happens we stick with him and keep going. You have to give them time to develop.

“Jordan is a young keeper and a lot of his development centres around concentration, he can be without the ball for so long that he has to make sure his focus is 100 per cent there.

“He has made improvements and need to continue to do that. All young players develop at different levels. Jordan proved his worth against Barnsley. He played a huge part in securing us the points.”
