Charlton striker set to see his minutes carefully managed in League One run-in

Chuks Aneke’s minutes will continue to be carefully managed for Charlton Athletic’s remaining League One matches.

The Addicks have a minimum of three games to go – and at least five if they manage to reach the play-offs.

Aneke’s first season in SE7 after joining on a free transfer from Milton Keynes was badly disrupted by injuries. But the former Arsenal man has accrued 38 appearances in all competitions this time around – with 11 of those starts.

Aneke has shown he can be a huge threat off the bench and has 14 goals in the current campaign.

But his last start was against Oxford United on March 6 – 10 games ago.

Charlton manager Nigel Adkins said: “I’ve had this conversation with Chuks himself, he wants to play 90 minutes of football on a continual basis.

“We have got three games to go and we have got to use Chuks as best as we can, to be as impactful as we can to score as many goals as he can and be a massive threat for us. Whether that is 90 minutes or 45, 30 or five minutes – the last thing we want to do is him be injured, sat in the stand and he can’t make any contribution. Ten minutes is better than no minutes, if that makes sense.”
