Victim, 20, died in early hours of Easter Sunday after single stab wound

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was fatally on his way home from a bar in the early hours of Easter Sunday.

Police were called on this morning, at about 1.10am to reports of an injured man on Ellerton Road, Earlsfield – near the rear gates of Springfield Hospital.

Officers attended along with paramedics and found a man – believed to be aged 20 – suffering from a stab injury. They fought to save his life for more than 40 minutes to save his life as he lay on the pavement but despite the best efforts of officers and ambulance medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.55am.

His next-of-kin have been informed.

Formal identification awaits and a post-mortem examination commenced on 1 April.

The Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating led by Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell, who said: “Sadly, another family has been left devastated with the tragic death of a young man from an act of violence. We are appealing to anyone who was in the area to come forward.

“We know that the victim left a bar in Garratt Lane, Earlsfield at aboutr 1am and he was found on Ellerton Road close to the junction with Burntwood Lane at 1.12am.

“Did you see any vehicles or people acting suspiciously in this area at around 01:10hrs? Any information you hold, no matter how small, could prove vital to our investigation.”
