Charlton Athletic boss Nigel Adkins explains why contract talks yet to commence

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Nigel Adkins says that there have been no contract talks with any of his Charlton Athletic players.

Top-scorer Chuks Aneke – who scored his 16th goal of the season in the 3-1 win over Lincoln on Tuesday – is able to leaving for nothing at the end of June.

Jake Forster-Caskey, club captain Jason Pearce, pictured, Darren Pratley and Adam Matthews are also inside the final two months of their deals.

Charlton’s League One play-off hopes will be decided on Sunday.

Adkins said: “We haven’t spoken to anyone – in contract or out of contract.

“I’m working the players every day and seeing them in game situations. You’re understanding more about where they are as players and individuals. When we get to the end of the season we’ll find out what division we’re in and sit down and go from there on that.

“The players are having a go. All energy and focus has been on winning the next game of football and building on principles of play.”
