“Over the moon” – Danny McNamara delighted at being voted Millwall’s Young Player of the Season

Danny McNamara is “over the moon” to have won Millwall’s Young Player of the Season award.
McNamara was recalled from St Johnstone in January and has notched up 16 appearances in a Millwall shirt.
The Irishman penned a new long-term contract in February.
McNamara told Millwall’s website: “I’m over the moon. Being awarded that is a dream, and hopefully I can carry that on next season.
“After coming back [from St Johnstone] I didn’t expect to play as many games as I have. I played against Boreham Wood and then I was in the team for the Bournemouth game. It’s been a surreal last six months for me, but it’s been brilliant.
“When I was told I was starting against [Bournemouth] I was shocked. I had to get my head around it and prepare, it was a great night.
“[My family] are over the moon, it’s just a shame the fans can’t be here and watch the games, because my family would be at every match. But next season is going to be special for me and my family.
“When I played my first game against Boreham Wood, I played at right wing-back which I had played at St Johnstone and I learnt that really well with Callum [Davidson]. In the last few games, I could’ve scored a couple of goals and that’s something I want to add to my game.
“Playing with Jed  Wallace massively helps me. He is a top-class player, who is one of the best wingers in the Championship. He always manages to find me.
“The gaffer has shown a lot of faith in me, by giving me so many minutes week in week out. It’s been brilliant.
“I want to maintain [my performances], you can never get too high or to low. I need to keep doing what I’m doing and try to take that into the next season.”
