Nigel Adkins has praise for Charlton Athletic’s loan players

Nigel Adkins has praised the attitude of Charlton Athletic’s loan players this season.

The Addicks had five temporary signings – Akin Famewo, Ian Maatsen, Liam Millar, Matt Smith and Jayden Stockley.

Andrew Shinnie was turned into a permanent deal in January, but the Scot is still a free agent at the end of June. His switch from Luton Town was converted into a full-time move to ensure all the players could be named in the matchday squad as there is a limit of five loanees in a matchday squad.

Asked if he was keen to have so many loans next season, Adkins said: “Loan players can be good from a budgetary point of view.

“I’m delighted with the loan players because sometimes loan players can come in and have poor attitudes but the five guys we’ve had have had exceptionally brilliant attitudes and I wish them all well with their careers moving forwards.

“Hopefully the experiences they have had have helped them in their journey to be top-class players.”
