Jed Wallace gives his take on being voted Millwall’s Player of the Season runner-up

Jed Wallace has given his reaction to coming second in Millwall’s Player of the Season award as well as becoming PFA Community Champion.

Wallace has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists for the Lions this season.

Bart Bialkowski won Player of the Season for the second year in a row.

Speaking to Millwall’s club website: “It’s always nice to get recognition.

“Any player who finishes above Shaun Hutchinson or Jake Cooper must have done quite well. It’s been great, I’m happy with that. I have to keep going to try and beat Bart, which is going to take some doing. Bart’s been amazing for a couple of years, so he fully deserves to be the winner again.

“It’s been another good season for me, I’ve tried to be as consistent as possible. It’s been a varying season in terms of positions, I’ve played up front, and on the right so it’s been a learning curve for me. I’ve always given 110 per cent and I think the supporters appreciate that.

“It’s been the least enjoyable season of my career [because of no fans at the games], I’m certainly looking forward to next season with the fans back. I thrive off that, so I’m looking forward to them being back.

“The big part of the season has been us improving. The emergence of Billy Mitchell and Danny McNamara, that’s been the major positive of the season. Even the likes of Mason Bennett, who has stayed fit and has had a great season!

“Since the gaffer has come in, we have shown we are a good Championship team. But we want to go one step further. With the gaffer here, the club will be in a good place.

“It will be massive for us [when the fans come back] even when we had 2,000 against Derby, you get a round of applause when you go out to warm up. The lads were saying they had goosebumps, it’s so important that they’re back. It’s been a real eye opener in the last 18 months, it’s just not the same. To get the fans back will be huge, Millwall notoriously with a full stadium tend to pick up more wins. It’s a really exciting time to be a Millwall fan.

“[On becoming PFA Community Champion] My football performances is one thing. But being able to help people off the pitch and being part of the community is something I take so much pride in. I haven’t been able to do it as much as I would’ve like this season with covid. It’s something I really enjoy doing, being able to help families in difficult circumstances is something I feel privileged to be able to.”
