AFC Wimbledon head coach will use some first-teamers in Liverpool friendly as fans allowed into Plough Lane

Mark Robinson is thrilled that there will be fans at Plough Lane for tonight’s friendly against Liverpool’s U23 side.

It is the first time that supporters have been allowed inside Plough Lane since it opened in November.

Speaking to AFC Wimbledon’s club website, Robinson said: “It’s going to be a momentous occasion.

“It’s not a friendly against Liverpool, it’s an incredible occasion for the fans and the club. We’re back home and it’s the first time some fans have been allowed in. It’s going to be emotional for a lot of those fans, so we have to make the game exciting for them. It has to feel like a proper game because that’s what the occasion deserves.

“Football’s about the fans. Fans and players that’s all that matters. Tomorrow is the first taste of having fans back, it’s so exciting. The first game against Doncaster at Plough Lane was great, but until fans are back in there it means nothing.

“We’re a fan owned-club, which is incredible, and the fact that the fans made that happen makes it even more incredible.

“Due to certain players having a lack of game time there will be quite a few first-team lads involved. Terell Thomas, Paul Kalambayi, Paul Osew (pictured), Ethan Chislett, Callum Reilly and Shayon Harrison will all play. There will also be some young pros, Matthew Cox, Jack Madelin and Elliott Bolton will all feature.

“Callum’s been injured, but he’s got back to fitness now. [Despite being released] He asked if he could play and it will be great for him to play in front of the fans. It’s also about his next steps, so this will allow his to return from injury and get the minutes he requires.

“We’re playing against Liverpool Football Club, it’s bound to be a tough challenge and one I want the lads to look forward too. I want us to stamp our mark on the game and try put on a show for the fans.”
