Millwall complete deal for Hull City goalkeeper George Long

George Long has been confirmed as Millwall’s first signing of the summer – with the goalkeeper penning a two-year contract.

The stopper, 27, was set to be a free agent at the start of July when his Hull City deal expired.

And our website broke the news last week that Long, also linked with Charlton Athletic, had agreed terms on a move to SE16.

The former Sheffield United youngster’s challenge is to dislodge Bart Bialkowski from the starting line-up. Bialkowski has won back-to-back Player of the Season awards since arriving from Ipswich Town.

Long has made more than 250 senior appearances, 152 of those in League One. He was part of Hull’s title-winning squad in the 2020-21 campaign but they opted against triggering an option in his contract which would have increased his wages.

Millwall had a vacancy for a keeper after Frank Fielding was released.

Long headed to South London yesterday to complete the paperwork on his contract.
