Drivers arrested after death of moped rider in Morden

By Davina Hyde

Two drivers have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a moped rider, 25, was killed in a collision involving two cars.

Police were called just after 4.20pm on Saturday May 29 to reports of a car in collision with a moped on St Helier Avenue, close to Netley Gardens in Morden.

Police officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the accident, but despite their efforts, the moped rider died at the scene just after 5pm.

Officers are in the process of informing his next of kin.

Detectives from the Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating.  It is believed that the cars were travelling at speed prior to one of them being involved in the collision.

They would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision, and the moments leading up to it, or to anyone who has dash cam footage of the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collision Investigation Unit on 0208 543 5157 or via 101 quoting reference Cad 5035/29 May.
