Broken bones don’t stop teenager Casey O’Gorman from racing in Catalunya

Erith teenager Casey O’Gorman finished 22nd in the third round of the Hawkers European Talent Cup last weekend – despite breaking bones in his foot after a bad crash.
He missed the second round at Circuit De Barcelona in Catalunya. The youngster’s foot was trapped between the wheel and the bike after the accident in practise at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Spain.
The swing-arm had to be cut off the machine on the track to free him. No surgery was needed and O’Gorman , who had been raced to hospital, was cleared to compete.
He qualified 35th out of 38 on the grid with a further 12 riders failing to make the cut.
O’Gorman pushed hard in the 15-lap race, heading a four-rider train over the line to take the flag in 22nd, only 10 seconds away from the points.
“I really enjoyed the race once the adrenaline kicked in and I ended up in a race-long battle for position,” said O’Gorman.
The next round is at the Autodromo Algarve circuit in Portugal on July 4.
