Patrick Vieira in pole position to be next Crystal Palace manager

Patrick Vieira is the new frontrunner to be Crystal Palace’s next manager.

The Athletic broke the news that the highly-decorated Frenchman, who won the World Cup and European Championship as a player, is in advanced talks with the Eagles.

It is the third time that Palace have appeared to be closing in on a successor to Roy Hodgson. They had also looked on the verge of appointing Lucien Favre until the Swiss boss pulled out of negotiations. The Eagles had also held extensive talks with Nuno Esperito Santo without them reaching a positive conclusion.

Vieira has been out of management since leaving Nice in December. He also had a spell in charge of New York City.

The 45-year-old was a powerhouse in Arsenal’s midfield as they won three Premier League titles – matching that feat with a hat-trick of championships at Inter Milan in Serie A.
