Former Birmingham and West Brom leader Paul Robinson steps in to become number three at The Den

Former West Brom and Birmingham defender Paul Robinson has been appointed first-team coach at Millwall – and it might lead to some confusion.

The 42-year-old former left-back has notched more than 650 career appearances to his name and will now assist Gary Rowett and his number two Adam Barrett for the 2021-22 campaign.

Robinson started his career at Watford, playing more than 200 times for The Hornets before going on to spend seven years at West Bromwich Albion, adding a further 239 appearances at The Hawthorns.

Spells at Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United followed before a six-year spell at Birmingham City, in which the defender was skipper under Rowett, who managed the Blues at the time.

Paul Robinson celebrates victory in the 2010 play-offs

Also on the coaching staff is another Paul Robinson, who both scored the goal and lifted the trophy at Wembley when the Lions won promotion via the League One play-offs in 2010, who is currently U23s assistant coach under Kevin Nugent. That Robinson, 39, played 546 matches for the Lions after bursting into the team in 2002 as a teenager – when he had looked to be headed out of the door.
