Fulham star praises Millwall for “best away atmosphere of the season”

By Richard Cawley

Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald spoke of his respect for Millwall’s fans after the atmosphere they generated in Friday night’s match.

The Lions’ 17-match unbeaten run was ended as the west London side scored three times in the second half.

McDonald struck the second goal from the edge of the box.

And he said: “The atmosphere was fantastic. It was the best atmosphere we’ve had in an away game all season. From the first minute until they got beaten 3-0 they were right behind their team.

“That’s fair play to them. It’s a hostile place to come, to say the least.

“They stuck behind their team at all times, and I respect that a lot.

“In the second half we were a class above at times. In the first half they had a good few chances. They way they play – respect to them. But once we got the ball down and passed it, we were way ahead of them.

“We knew we would have the opportunities. There is only a certain amount of time you can continue to press. You saw it even at times in the first half when we got the ball down and passed it – we carved them open.

“The second half they are chasing the game. It opened up more and it suited us. We have faith in the way we play.”
