AFC Wimbledon boss gives verdict on Joe Pigott’s move to Ipswich Town

AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson is backing Joe Pigott to be a success at Ipswich Town.

The 27-year-old striker turned down new terms at the Dons and became a free agent at the start of July.

Pigott had set his sights on a Championship move but instead has joined the Tractor Boys on a deal until the summer of 2024.

The former Charlton forward netted 22 times last season.

“I think there were options in the Championship but, for whatever reason, they didn’t come to fruition,” said Robinson, who had allowed Pigott to train with Wimbledon in pre-season to boost his fitness work. “He decided that going to Ipswich is something quite exciting.

“They seem to be throwing an awful lot of money around to get promotion. I wish him all the best, other than the two games against us.

“I hope he does well and I expect him to do well.”

Will Nightingale is set to miss some of Wimbledon’s friendlies after chipping a bone in his arm.

“We’ve got to make sure the bone is healed before he comes back to full contact,” said Robinson.
