Camberwell’s Daryll Neita becomes first GB sprinter in 100m women’s final for 13 years

Daryll Neita from Camberwell has become the first Briton to reach the final of the women’s 100m at the Olympics in 13 years.

She made the final after a personal best 10.96 seconds in the semis yesterday, making her the first Team GB finalist since Jeanette Kwakye – now a TV host on the BBC – who came 6th in 2008.

It also makes her the second-fastest British woman of all time, behind Dina Asher-Smith.

The Cambridge Harrier world relay silver medallist, who has three national titles at youth level, was disappointed by her 11.00 seconds in the final, and said: “I’m meant to be here. This is where I belong. It feels like home. In this final, I felt like I belong here.

“Going forward, the mentality has really grown – and, yeah, there’s no limits.”
