Dons boss Mark Robinson on the success of the summer signings

The Dons have signed seven players in the summer transfer window – three on short and three on long deals.
Boss Mark Robinson signed Watford attacker Dapo Mebude on Wednesday.

He had already bagged Brentford forward Aaron Pressley on a loan, and versatile full-back Henry Lawrence from Chelsea.

And permanently, the club have added George Marsh, Luke McCormick and Darius Charles.

“People don’t see the work behind the scenes that goes into it, but we got every first target that we wanted, which was really pleasing,” said boss Mark Robinson.

“We knew we were not going to be able to keep Joe Pigott; finances restrict you on a lot of things. We did try to keep George Dobson – that was one we couldn’t manage. But we got George Marsh, who was an instant target.

“With our resources, we have to be pleased because we know these players have other clubs they could have gone to. We feel we got an awful lot right in the recruitment process – we’re very pleased.”

Their signings also bought into the “special identity” of AFC Wimbledon.

“I met with the new players, for at least three hours – a couple even longer,” he said. “It’s really important they understand what the club is about.

“Even if you want them as a player, and they have talent, if they don’t understand what is required at this club, you need to not sign them.

“That’s what has impressed me with the new recruits. These players totally understood what we are about. I felt their characters fitted – it’s vital.”
