‘Phenomenal’ – AFC Wimbledon boss has praise for fans after win at Doncaster Rovers

Mark Robinson hailed the AFC Wimbledon supporters after his side beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Goals from Ayoub Assal and Luke McCormick meant the Dons walked away with all three points after Charlie Seaman had put Rovers in front just after half-time.

Speaking to AFC Wimbledon’s club website, Robinson said: “It was very emotional. It just felt right. The numbers the fans travelled in, is absolutely phenomenal.

“It felt right, and I just want the fans to realise how much we appreciate them, so that was really good.

“In the first half we were good, it wasn’t a game of a lot of chances but we had the key moments, there’s no doubt about that.

“We were certainly the team in the ascendancy. The disappointing thing was how we started the second half, that’s certainly something we will look at straightaway.

“I don’t think we were at our very best on the ball, although there were some good moments in the first-half and some decent moments in the second half.

“We’ve talked a lot about our youthful squad, so we need to learn quickly on certain things and I said, these sorts of games are so important. There are some games, where you are comfortable and play great football, but there are others where you just have to dig in and come away with a result.

“I put Ayoub under a little bit of pressure, because he’s not in the under-18’s anymore. At half-time I said he had to do better with his chance, and he’s come up trumps and he’s tucked it away really really well.

“I said the same to Luke McCormick, we signed him for his quality, and his set-pieces in the first-half weren’t good enough. He’s gone and done that as well, and that’s what quality players do, they do it when it matters.

“Both goals have come from creating a bit of chaos on the edge of the area. You’re not going to score perfect goals very often, and that’s what we’ve done and what we have to keep working on.”
