Millwall boss assesses Cardiff City challenge and adds: We won’t be judged against clubs like Fulham

Gary Rowett is looking for Millwall to bounce back from their first Championship defeat of the campaign as they head to Cardiff today.

The Lions lost 2-1 to an expensively-assembled Fulham side in midweek.

But now Millwall, such good travellers since Rowett took charge, head to Wales.

Rowett said: “Cardiff are a good side, but a very different team from Fulham. They are a strong, physical team. A similar team, in certain ways, to ourselves.

“They’ve got lots of talented players but it will be a game where they are probably very different to stop. They are very strong from set-pieces – as we saw late on against Peterborough in their game. Under Mick [McCarthy] they are always an organised side. It’s a difficult place to go.

“The likes of Kieffer Moore is always going to give you a problem.

“We’ve got to go there and respond. We were reasonably pleased with the first two performances, and then we were disappointed by large elements of playing against a team who cost about £170million and a budget about six times biggers than ours. You have to be realistic in your assessment of your own team’s performance.

“I don’t think we’ll be defined our judged on playing a team like Fulham, on a night like that in front of the TV cameras.

“Cardiff is always a tough place to go but we’ve got to go and put a strong performance on.”
