Ex-Millwall boss McCarthy reflects on 3-1 win over Lions and left impressed by aerial power

Mick McCarthy spoke about Cardiff City’s aerial presence after they beat Millwall 3-1 on Saturday. An Aden Flint double and a Sean Morrison goal sealed the victory for the Bluebirds after Benik Afobe halved the deficit.
McCarthy told Cardiff’s club website: “We’re certainly good at scoring from crosses that’s for sure. They all count, but we just need to keep winning games – that’s the aim of the game.
“In the second-half we were better and again the subs made a difference. They’ve all done well and that’s really important.
“I’ve said from the start I like the squad and I’m confident in it, but it gives me more hope and pleasure when I see performances like that. We make sure we get good movement. There’s nothing really clever about it, we’ve got great headers off the ball and good deliveries so we put it in areas where we’re going to score from.
“Short corners look fabulous when they come off but when we’ve got those deliveries from Marlon Pack, Joe Ralls and certainly Ryan Giles, then the power in the air, why not put it there and that’s what we do.
“We got the goals, we had to dig in and that is my attitude – you try everything you can but don’t get beat! If we keep doing that we’ll be in and around that top six come the end of the season.”
