Charlton Athletic win Capital Cup – and can clinch Southern Division title at Crystal Palace on Sunday

By Richard Cawley

Charlton Athletic Women won the Capital Cup last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace Ladies – and can seal the FA WPL Southern Division title on Sunday.

Kit Graham and Olivia Lukasewich netted for the Addicks – the latter’s a 90th-minute winner. Gemma Bryan had put the Eagles ahead with an excellent free-kick.

Charlotte Lee saw a first-half penalty saved by Palace keeper Megen Lynch.

The two South London clubs meet again this weekend and even a point should secure the Addicks top spot as they have a hugely superior goal difference.

Charlton manager Riteesh Mishra said: “It’s the fifth time in a row we have won the Capital Cup. I felt we were in control for most of the game and deserved the win.

“We need two points from our next three games to confirm being league champions, but a point will probably be enough. It is in our hands. it’s for us to lose.

“I’m fully confident we will get the points we need but nothing is ever really done and dusted.

“Palace might well approach the game differently and there is no way they will want us to win the trophy on their home turf.”
