‘I did throw a few expletives at Kevin’ – Millwall boss Gary Rowett on EFL Cup draw against his former club Leicester City
Millwall manager Gary Rowett has revealed he sent a swear-laden message to Kevin Phillips after the South London club were drawn at home to Leicester in the third round of the EFL Cup.
Ex-Crystal Palace striker Phillips and Kevin Campbell conducted the draw on Wednesday night.
The Lions famously knocked Leicester out of the FA Cup in 2017 at The Den when Claudio Ranieri’s side were the reigning Premier League champions.
“I did throw a few expletives at Kevin – a little bit of banter,” said Rowett, pictured right. “His response was: ‘At least you’re at home’. It is his old club and my old club.
“It is a tough draw. Leicester have proved they are a top-six Premier League side under Brendan [Rodgers]. He has done a terrific job there.”
AFC Wimbledon travel to Arsenal, who smashed West Brom 6-0 to seal their passage.
The ties take place in the week commencing September 20.
