Nigel Adkins says he won’t be unnecessarily rushed into signing a goalkeeper before the transfer window closes

Nigel Adkins says that the rules around emergency loans for goalkeepers takes the pressure off the need to get a backup in over the next few days.
Craig MacGillivray is the only senior stopper in the building at the moment following Ashley Maynard-Brewer’s loan move to Scottish side Ross County.
Nathan Harness, 21, has been on the bench in all five of Charlton’s league and cup games so far this campaign. The youngster, who was snapped up from West Ham to join the Addicks’ u23s last year, is yet to play a game of EFL football. He has been out on loan at Welling United and Billericay over recent years.
EFL rules state that clubs can bring in an emergency goalkeeper loan if all the professional goalkeepers at a club are unavailable due to injury, suspension or international call ups.
Adkins, who had previously said he may look to add some experienced backup to his goalkeeping ranks, said he won’t be forced into deciding too quickly with the transfer window set to close on Tuesday.
“The goalkeeper is the one position that you can get an emergency loan in if required after the window shuts,” explained the Addicks boss.
“It gives us an awareness that we don’t need to rush into a decision. We need to get it right.”
